Dear Friends at LHJC!
I am VERY excited to let you know that we will be hosting a wonderful, comprehensive Introduction to Jewish Class beginning, Tuesday, March 4! We are doing this under the auspices of the "Institute for Conversion and Outreach Education - a program of the NJ Rabbinical Assembly in partnership with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, New Jersey Region. This 24-week intensive class will cover topics from: "Jewish Perspectives on God" to "Judaism and Christianity" to "Halakhah: The Role of Law and Commandment in Judaism" to "Marriage, Divorce & Jewish Perspectives on Sexuality" - and many, many more. Taking this course and doing the assigned readings will enrich anyone who wants to probe the depths of their Judaism, and will also serve as the educational basis for those considering conversion to Judaism. The class will begin at 7:00 pm with 45 minutes of learning Hebrew from scratch - to be able to use the Siddur/Prayerbook - and then a brief break followed by the topic for the day from 8:00 to 9:30 pm. Included in the price of the class are 7 wonderful Jewish books, and a huge binder of additional articles and readings. I proud and excited to say that I will be teaching both parts of the class! From my experience of teaching a very similar class for 8 years, I can tell you that there will be "light bulbs" going off in all of the "heads" who take the course and do the readings! It will be a wonderful way not only to learn, but to come closer to fellow students and form a special community. I hope many of you can sign up! And please let your friends know about this. It's a great way for people in Ringwood and Wanaque to get to know LHJC! Click here to download details of the class. Included are a description of the course, the dates of class meetings (Tuesday evenings from March through September), and the registration form! Please sign up ASAP, and let me know if you are doing so! You will also see advertisements for the class in some of the local papers. Pass the word on: major Jewish learning is going on at LHJC - in a friendly and open-minded way! I look forward to hearing from you! Happy TuBishevat! Have some dates and "Bokser" (fresh/dried carob) and almonds on me! Yours very excited, Rabbi Crespy |
